In 1904, a fungal blight reached the American chestnut. By 1940, four billion trees were gone. The dominant tree of Eastern American forests was effectively extinct. A style of whiskey vanished with it. The American Chestnut Foundation has spent forty years bringing the tree back. This rye is matured on fallen limbwood from their orchards. Both come back together.
